An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth

__________.
Leaving a space is useful because it will allow you to add notes, or ideas, or to keep time for emergencies. In classes, when you take notes, you need to keep some space between the head points, for later use, in case you want to add more explanation or notes.

Take field trips
It is very important for any one to see things on its nature. Leaving the home or office or class to go to a field of the incident would develop our experience and knowledge about the real life. A designer should go and look to the real things to see it on its nature. That will allow designer to give a design closer to the fact or desire.

Don't borrow money.
Borrowing money is one of the scatterbrains. It is preventing a person or a designer from having clear imagination or creativity. I think not only borrowing money, but also any distracter that would create a barrier from having clear thinking and imagination.

Think with your mind
Technology was made to help us in make decision but it is not made to make a decision. Finally it is our choice that would make the final result. It is very important to invigorates our creativity and expand our thinking to make the best choice of decision. Technology has a limited choices but human being has many different choices. We should not fully depend on technology.

Income Tax Propaganda

I found this cartoon as an interesting propaganda. It is about income tax. In this cartoon show, a very famous character during the period of WWII, which is Donald Duck, was used to catch the attention of audience because it was a funny character. The purpose with this cartoon is to send a message about tax and how employee should pay tax before anything else and forbids him or herself from entertainment. At the same time, this cartoon shows how the tax money was used. Using this character at that time sent a very strong message to people who had different interpretations for the message.

Design, Culture, and Language

Design means something new or different than others. To design is to create something that is new to serve needs and satisfy wants. It is the process of creating or it is also the new product such as a new design of chair.

Culture is the traditions and habits that a society agreed on and these traditions became as normal activities. If any new activity exits, it would be a new innovation in the society. It could be accepted or rejected depend on the elasticity of that society.

Language is called to any way of communication that we can express our feelings, or wants or desires. This language can be voice, or written word, or sign or picture. By voice we can communicate and tell about ourselves. With a written word, we can explain a process of things. By sign we can warn someone or guide people. With a picture

I can relate the three terms, design, culture, and language, by saying that since we need to communicate and express about our feelings, we need to create a language that helps us to communicate. After we create a language which is not limited to words or voice but also it includes images and signs, we come to the culture which will determine whether our new innovation is acceptable or not in a specific society.

www.hillmancurtis.com (James Vectore)

I think James Victore philosophy is to produce a graphics related to some controversial issues. In the short movie, many graphics seem to represent common controversial issues like racism, politics, and freedom. Making graphics for advertising purposes is not his main goal. He is using simple designing and sometimes he amends some pictures to have a final graphic that send a message to the audience. He wants to change the people opinion through his funny, clear art. Some of his drawing could be mad as he says, but that how he catchs the audience attention.

Puzzles in Art

It is the style of some artists to draw pictures that puzzle the viewers. Moving circles or pictures that we do not know where to start or where to end makes us unable to understand the way these pictures were designed. It is like a magic, but it is only tricky way of art.

Metaphor

I think, since long time ago, people have been using a golden egg to represent wealth. It is very famous metaphor in many places around the world.

Ancient Civilizations

The ancient Civilizations created different shapes and forms to communicate between themselves. They created drawings of things, like people, animals to write a history of incidents. Also, they wrote the different sciences through these shapes and drawings. Here we can see drawings by the ancient pharaohs and the Mayan numbers. We are today trying to read these drawings to be able to know more about these ancient civilizations.

Quote for Design

“Design is directed toward human beings. To design is to solve human problems by identifying them and executing the best solution.”—Ivan Chermayeff

I found this an interesting quote by Ivan Chermayeff like a definition for the word design. Design is things created by human beings to solve his problem. It could be to solve a problem, or to satisfy a need or desire. For example, clothes' designer designs clothes to satisfy his customer desire. Also, human being created the wheel chair to solve the problem for disabled people. Whenever we see a design in our life, it means there was a problem or desire behind this design.

There is no limit for Art and Design

I think we can not limit art and design on a specific field. We expect to have art in all our daily life. It changes and seduces our emotions. Without this relation between art and emotions, we can not call it an art. This cup of coffee is an up normal one because there is a little kind of art added to it. It seems to be different and more attractive cup of coffee that a person like to have in the early morning.

Architecture. Where to end?

This is a design of Helix Hotel in the Zayed Bay district of Abu Dhabi, UAE. It was designed by New York design firm Leeser Architecture and they won the compitition. An eight floors hotel with a swimming pool on the last floor. The swimming pool floor is made of glass. The hotel represtents simplicity and modernity. Simple shapes of floors added to the technology of architecture. As a visitor to this place or a person who likes to see pictures in magazines, I would be attracted to discover this place becasue it bring a feeling to me that this place is full of adventure.
